Goal 2

Restore the Sound and Movement of Our Taranaki Wildlife

The second goal of the initiative is to increase conservation e orts for our native wildlife to return their sound and movement to the wider Taranaki landscape.

While the Taranaki region only makes up 2.7% of New Zealand’s land area, we know that 17% of New Zealand’s 270 threatened or at-risk terrestrial fauna species, and six species of threatened or at risk terrestrial invertebrates are found in the region. Taranaki is also home to New Zealand’s largest population of Western Brown Kiwi. The region needs to ensure the preservation of our native species.
